Whenever a national event or scandal occurs – you can count on the media to play it over and over again. The more scandalous the more play it will get. Why? Because bad news and gossip catch on like a raging wildfire.

Ever notice that when a well-known, respected personality has a run of bad luck – the media will turn on them in an instant! It can be the littlest of things – it doesn’t matter, it only matters that it’s bad news. Often these are the same people we’ve built up through the years – we build them up and then tear them down. People are attracted to brutal and violent movies and television shows. Reality shows that focus on defeat. A culture of violent video games are feeding young minds. All of these sources feed the negative mindset.

40 to 50 per cent of your happiness depends on the choices you make and where you place your focus each day. “You can choose to live focusing on what is right and beautiful in your life,” said Dr Sood. Scientists have created a four-step, 10-week program that changes your mindset. Dr Sood led the research for the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, the program uses a series of exercises that they say helps train people’s minds into choosing happiness.

The brink of an idea! Happiness starts with gratitude. It can be challenging to feel gratitude when it feels like the sky is falling. Step back from the situation and recognize that you can’t control everything and everyone around you – you can only control you! Happiness comes from within – it comes from the choices you make.
